Join us for an evening with author and journalist Robert K. Elder as he discusses his new book, Last Words of the Executed. Pulitzer-winner Studs Terkel calls Elder "a journalist in the noblest tradition" in the book’s foreword. The product of seven years of extensive research, the book explores the cultural value of these final statements and asks what we can learn from them. Elder will be joined by Steve James, the writer, director and producer of Hoop Dreams, who will be showing clips of At the Death House Door, his documentary about Carroll Pickett, the death house chaplain in Huntsville, TX and Carlos DeLuna who was executed on 12/7/89 after prosecutors ignored evidence that should have set him free. This is a free event. Location: Oak Park Public Library 834 Lake Street Oak Park, Illinois 60302 |
